FUNday School

Who knows what faith formation model and schedule will work for families with young children once we emerge from pandemic protocol?!? Our Sunday school teachers and Children’s Chapel leaders have been away from their positions for two years, and there are several new humans that have been born in that time who we are just now getting to meet!

Here’s what I do know: our community is willing to meet families in the ways that work best for them. That’s why we have welcomed a transition from traditional weekly programming to monthly family formation. We call it it “FUNday School” and it utilizes all of the tools in our VBS, Godly Play, Sparkhouse, and Children’s Chapel toolboxes.

While children are welcome at any church service, there is something really freeing for parents as they gather with their young ones in an atmosphere designed to share the stories and community of faith with our youngest members. This coming FUNday School gathering focuses on the gifts God gives us, including the choices we make to use this gifts and live well together. Our youth will share their gifts of violin and basketball to demonstrate how interesting and different all of our gifts are!

As a pastor, it’s freeing to let go of long-held demands for a traditional Sunday morning children’s program and move in a creative direction. And quite possibly, to re-configure over and over until we can gather with all those children and draw them into a community where they can know the Way of Love as we know it best in Jesus.
