Embracing the Future Together, Part Three
Over the last two days I have shared my story of moving my parents cross country and into our home, and considerations that may help you in your potential transition. Today I want to share some concrete resources with you to make this transition, safe, smooth, and joy-filled.
For the resources below, I’m drawing from more than the story of moving my parents over the last few months. These resources come from reflecting on moving my great aunt in to live with my mom while I was on maternity leave, supporting my mother-in-law with her move from a townhouse into a retirement community, assisting Dave’s aunt with her decision to move from upstate New York to our area of Maryland, moving cross country and in state multiple times, and the many folks in my faith community who have shown me how to love family in real ways.
Are you thinking about moving in with your parents, or having your parents move in with you and your family? We have made this transition, and I’m glad to share it with anyone who is pondering such a transition in your own family.
I’m posting this before it is technically finished and ready, so that anyone who wants to learn alongside our experience is able to access this. Check back for updates and other enhancements.
I’ve organized this post into two sections:
The story of our transition experience, and
The considerations I offer to you from our experiences.
I’m also throwing in some resources you may want to investigate.
